Stay calm. If you are arrested in Pakistan, the first thing to know is this: you have the right to know why you are being arrested, and you have the right to contact a lawyer of your choice without delay. Do not sign any statement or document without legal advice. Anything you say can become part of the case against you — remaining silent until your lawyer arrives is often the wisest choice. Ask for a copy of the FIR. It is your right to know exactly what you are accused of. In bailable offences you can seek release on bail; in non-bailable offences, your counsel can apply for pre-arrest or post-arrest bail. Inform a family member as early as possible, and note the names and badge numbers of the arresting officers, along with the time and place of arrest. These notes explain the law in general terms for public awareness. They are not legal advice for any specific case.
